What is SGA?

The Northeastern University Student Government Association (or SGA for short) is the representative body serving to help more than 20,000 undergraduate students and to change our Boston campus for the better. We take on different projects and initiatives, write legislation, and advocate to members of the University administration to improve student life, classroom programs, and the overall Northeastern Boston campus undergraduate experience.

What does Sga Do?

SGA advocates for undergraduate students' interests in the university. We serve as the voice of the undergraduate student body on the Boston campus and work on meaningful projects that improve Northeastern University students’ lives every day. Our work falls several categories:

• Student Advocacy — We work with administrators to create new and improve existing programs, policies, and practices that benefit students and address issues in every facet of the university, from dining, housing, academics, global experience, wellness, and school spirit. We accomplish this by passing legislation in our Senate and working in various Committees & Boards in all of our Divisions.

• Events — We plan and host student forums and school spirit events including hockey tailgates, Beanpot watch parties, Northeastern’s Got Talent, and block pARTy. We accomplish this through our External Affairs Division.

• Student Organization Management and Engagement — We oversee the governance, approvals, compliance, and operations of all Center for Student Involvement (CSI)- recognized student organizations on the Boston Campus and distribute the Student Activities Fund. We accomplish this through the Student Involvement Division and the Finance Board.

• SGA Operations — We have dozens of students whose job is solely focused on SGA running smoothly—from website and archive management, running our student body elections, judicial hearings, communications/social media, Senator training, engagement & retention, SGA recruitment, and much more! We accomplish this through the Office of the President, the Operational Appeals Board, the Elections Board, the Operational Affairs Division and every other facet of SGA.
