MEETING RECAP

  • Congratulations to EVP Coughlin for being elected as Student Body President and Speaker Donoghue for being elected as EVP!

  • Last Monday, Senate held a Full Body Senate at the Massachusetts State House! Thank you all for coming!

  • We also had a legislation vote:

    • RG-SP-24-109 (Formalization of Speaker of the Senate) was passed. Congrats to the Authors!  

  • We also heard the proposal for the 2024-2025 annual budget which was approved.

 SGA ANNOUNCEMENTS 

  • Internal Elections! Nominations for all internally elected positions are now open.

    • Nominations can be made over email or during senate. Nominations by email are highly preferred. 

      • Send an email to sgasenatespeaker@northeastern.edu AND Sgaelections@northeastern.edu with the full name of the nominee, the position, and a voting member of the Senate CC-ed who is willing to second the nomination.

      • Both the nominator and the second must be voting members of Senate!

      • The person seconding the nomination must reply confirming their second.

      • After the nomination is seconded, the nominee must reply accepting within 24 hours.

      • Nominated candidates will have 5 minutes to give a speech and 10 minutes to answer questions at the upcoming election Senates!

      •  Please prepare one slide using this template 

        • Feel free to edit the headings as required.

        • Completed slides should be sent  to Sgasenatespeaker@northeastern.edu AND sgaOperations@northeastern.edu Sunday at noon.

        • All candidates should submit a slide regardless of if they are nominated by mail or nominated during the meeting.

  • Engagement hours are now being collected for all Senators. For March you must get at least 3 engagement hours. View more details about what counts for engagement hours on the slides. 

    • The form to submit engagement hours is linked here and at the bottom of this email. As a reminder do not submit committee/board/senate attendance. 

  • The second of four focus groups sessions lead by senator Jamira Collins targeting black mental health will be occurring this Thursday the 28th, from 6:30-7:30 in the JDOAAI. The focus of this week’s session will be understanding emotions and coping mechanisms!

  • Fill out this Google Form regarding your experience with SGA’s internal communication! We need everyone’s input to make meaningful changes.  

  • Applications for parliamentarian are now open, and that interested candidates should email coughlin.ma@northeastern.edu and donoghue.ca@northeastern.edu with a short, paragraph-long statement of interest. Deadline is April 3rd.

UPCOMING MEETINGS 

  • The next Senate meeting will be APRIL 1st at 6:30pm. We do not have the Senate chambers for this meeting. Meeting room info will be sent with the agenda. This is a Full Body Senate where we will hear open nominations for internal elections and elect the Speaker of the Senate, VP for Campus Affairs, VP for Academic Affairs, VP for Student Success, VP for DEI, and VP for Student Involvement. As always, attendance changes for full bodies are due one week in advance. You must fill out the attendance form at the bottom of this email if you cannot attend.
