Points of Information
The "Point of Information" is a e-newsletter published by the Speaker of the Senate that provides updates on recent Senate meetings, including recaps of legislation passed, nominations, and upcoming elections. It also shares important announcements for SGA members in general, such as training sessions, budget deadlines, and recruitment opportunities. Additionally, the newsletter highlights campus-wide events, workshops, and upcoming Senate meetings, ensuring that all members are informed and prepared for their roles.

We also heard new legislation RG-SP-24-109 (Speaker of the Senate) which will be debated and voted on at the State House on Monday.

The Student Government Association will host a Legislative Senate meeting on Monday, March 25th, at 4:30pm in-person the Massachusetts State House
You must arrive to the State House by 4:30pm. You will not be let in if you arrive late.
We will be exiting the State House by 7:00pm. You may not leave early.
There will be no virtual option for this meeting.

It’s Wellness Week! Come learn about narcan and how to administer it in Curry 336 on Wednesday at 6pm! Then, Join Jamira for the first of four sessions focusing on mental resilience for Black students in the JDOAAI on Thursday at 6:30pm!
Join SGA at Northeastern’s annual Relay For Life event next Friday, March 22, in Matthews Arena from 6pm-6am. Relay is an all-night event to signify the fight that cancer patients undergo. It is a great way to get involved with the Northeastern community while making a difference for those in need and supporting a worthy cause. There will be plenty of games, performances, and other activities to participate in for the entire 12 hours, but it isn't required that you stay the whole time. If you’re interested, please join our SGA team using this link

We nominated the candidates for this year's Student Body Elections. Congratulations to the nominees!
Congratulations to all our authors! This week we voted and passed 4 pieces of legislation:
RG-SP-24-101 (SIB Restructure) passed. The Student Involvement division is now 3 boards and 1 committee!
RG-SP-24-102 (Global Engagement Committee) passed.
RG-SP-24-104 (SAF Manual) passed. Annual Budgets went out last night!
IR-SP-24-103 (Expedited Process for IR/ RGs) passed.
We also had new legislation and a memo presented:
Senator Elections Memo was presented. We will be hosting focus groups about this at our next Senate so please review and come prepared.

SGA ANNOUNCEMENTS
We will hold our first SGA-wide general meeting on Tuesday, February 27 from 6:30–7:30 on Zoom and in EXP 204.
This meeting is open to everyone involved in SGA. We are planning to go over updates from the semester and share information about upcoming Association-wide events (year-end gala, passing of the gavel, senate at the statehouse, etc). For senators, attendance counts towards engagement hour requirements. There will be SGA merch!

The first Official Senate meeting will be a working Senate held on January the 29th at 6:30pm! This will be held in the Senate Chambers, Curry 333. ALL are welcome and encouraged to attend, regardless of application status!
SENATOR APPLICATIONS
Applications and nomination signatures are due on TUESDAY, January 30th at 11:59pm
To apply, you need to represent a constituency (this will be the group of undergraduate students you will be representing in our Senate body)
You may represent your home academic college (ex. CSSH, COE, COS, etc.)- these Senators are referred to as Academic Senators
OR you may represent another club/ organization on campus- these Senators are referred to as Special Interest Senators
Fall Senators- If you applied as a Senator in Fall 2023, your senator status is still valid. No need to reapply, unless you wish to change your constituency.
Spring and new Senators- If you have never applied or applied last spring, you must reapply to maintain your senator status!
Process for applying:
You must first complete the Senator application. You may apply on paper or online. You MUST stick to one method of application (ex. if you fill out the application online you must also collect signatures online).
You must also collect 30 signatures (nominations) from your constituents. These signatures must be from Undergraduate Northeastern students that are part of your constituency. If you are applying online, signatures will be collected through the form listed below.
If you are applying as a Special Interest Senator you MUST also have the President of your organization complete the President approval form listed below.
You may print the application and nomination forms below if you wish to apply on paper or you can pick up a form the door of the SGA office (Curry 332).

EMERGENCY ELECTION
Due to the passing of IR-105, an emergency election will be held for Speaker of the Senate next Monday, December 4th. Nominations are now open.The process is as follows:
Nominations can be made over email or during senate. Nominations by email are highly preferred.
Send an email to sga@northeastern.edu with the full name of the nominee, the position (Speaker of the Senate), and a voting member of the Senate willing to second the nomination.
Both the nominator and the second must be voting members of Senate!
The person seconding the nomination must reply confirming their second.
After the nomination is seconded, the nominee must accept within 24 hours.
Nominated candidates will have 5 minutes to give a speech and 10 minutes to answer questions on Monday (12/4)!
Please prepare one slide using this template. Feel free to edit the headings as required. Completed slides should be sent to sga@northeastern.edu AND sgaOperations@northeastern.edu by Monday at 9:00am.
All candidates should submit a slide regardless of if they are nominated by mail or nominated during the meeting.

Our next Senate meeting will be a FULL-BODY and the FINAL SENATE OF THE SEMESTER next Monday, December 4th at 6:30pm in Curry 333. This will be our Annual Holiday Party and the awarding of Senators and Delegates of the Semester. 🎉

The Office of Prevention & Education at Northeastern (OPEN) is seeking students’ feedback about OPEN’s sexual violence resources. Recognizing the disproportionate impact of sexual violence on students who hold marginalized identities, OPEN is hosting listening sessions throughout November that are open to LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and international students. The sessions are open to any student on the Boston campus who holds these identities, not just those who have directly experienced sexual violence. All information shared during these conversations will be confidential, and dinner will be provided.
